Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Players & Parents

  1. How do I know if my registration went through?
Once you complete your online registration, our registrar will pick it up in a few days and assign your player to a team. Wait a week, then return to your online account and see if this has happened.

  2. How do I provide proof of age?
If it is the player's 1st time, you must prove age by pasting a photo of birth certificate or passport on the initial application. If you fail to do this, the registrar will contact you asking for proof of age before the player can be assigned to a team.

  3. Are scholarships available?
Partial scholarships are provided for players who are qualified for school free lunch. Select the  “Financial Assistance” option as you register.  You will notice the discount on the payment page. Families who are in financial hardship can skip the payment page and receive full scholarship. Just let us know you cannot afford to pay when we ask for payment later.

  4. How do I pick a team for my child?
You cannot select a team. After you register, the BHYS  registrar places players on teams to be sure that teams have the right number of players. Send a message to BHYS.registrar@gmail.com if you have a preference.

  5. Will I play on the same team I played on last year?
All players return to the same team they played on in the previous fall season. New players are assigned to teams with openings.

  6. Where do I find my team information?
You can view your team roster online by logging into BHYS.org

  7. When will my team practice?
Coaches decide when their team practices. Most teams practice once or twice a week.

  8. Are players grouped by age?
Teams are sorted into age groups. A player’s age is determined by their age on July 31st. For example, if your child is 8 on July 31st, then your child plays on a Under 9 team which we call U9.

  9. Are players grouped by skill level?
No. Beacon Hill Youth Soccer is a recreational soccer club. Advanced players can try out for competitive soccer with Seattle United Soccer Club.

  10. Where will my team practice?
Practice location depends on field availability. U6 to U9 practice at Jefferson Park. U10 and up practice at various local play fields.

  11. Where is my game schedule?
Beacon Hill Youth Soccer teams have weekly games with teams from neighboring soccer clubs. Game schedules are released no later than Labor Day. Games start the following week. Coaches & Volunteers

  1. How do I get help with registration problems?
Help is available 7 am to 7 pm seven days a week at Affinity Sports at support@affinitysoccer.com (888) 213-3999.

  2. Can I assist even if I can’t be at all the practices or games?
It’s a group effort. Parents work together to provide support in many ways. Some teams have two coaches. All teams need someone to manage transportation, communication, snacks, distributing uniforms, and many other tasks, large and small, that would make the coach’s job easier.

  3. Do coaches need experience?
Not for younger ages. We provide coaching clinics; participation is optional. Many practice drills can be found on YouTube. The only requirement is to help kids have fun.

  4. Where do I get equipment?
Balls, cones, jerseys, and other supplies are provided by our equipment manager; Larry for now. Text or call 206-853-9935 with your request.

  5. What if other people are using the playfield reserved for my team?
First tell them you have the playfield reserved. Field reservation documents are available. Have a screen shot at the beginning of the season. Field permits are located in the Coaches Corner.

  6. Will my game have a referee?
U9 and younger teams have parents who referee. The home team provides the referee. Seattle Soccer Referee Association assigns referees for U10 and older games.

There is a link to the referee association where they can find out if a referee picked up the game. https://www.sysa.org/referees

If no referee has shown up, then talk to opposing coach about having parents do it.

  7. How do I find contact information for the opposing team?
Go to your schedule online > click on the team name and the contact information appears.

  8. Should snacks be provided for the team?
Most teams provide snacks but you should worry about anaphylactic allergies and trash on the field.  Slices of fruit is a better alternative.

  9. How long should halftime be?
Up to the coaches and the referee.

  10. Will there be anyone onsite from SYSA during games?  In case we have questions?
No.  Ask your club administrators for assistance.

  11. In the SYSA Rules & Regulations, it mentions that jerseys should be numbered and have an SYSA logo attached.  Is that true?
True for U10 and up.  No numbers needed for U9 and younger.

  12. In the SYSA Rules & Regulations, it also mentions that coaches should supply 3 rosters to the referee at the start of the game.  Is that true?  And, that coaches should report the score/cards distributed to the scorekeeper.  Is that true?
True for U10 and up.  Not true for U9 and down.

  13. Do we keep score?
Yes for U10 and older.  Absolutely not for U9 and younger.
